My professor's daughter, who was 5, went up to her and told her, "Mommy, I don't want to study in Kumon anymore."
My professor, baffled, asked her daughter, "Why?"
"It's too hard. Before, I could finish all my math homework in one hour. Now that we're learning fractions, it's taking me 3 hours too finish. It's too hard. I asked Daddy if I could quit and he said yes."
"Wait. Before you quit, I'd like to ask you one thing," my professor asked her daughter, "do you still love math?"
"Yes."
"Well, in that case, no. I will not let you quit school."
"What? Mommy, it's too hard. and I've already asked Daddy, and he said it was okay for me to quit school," her daughter whined.
"You want to quit because your lessons are hard, not because you don't like what you're doing anymore. If you quit every time things become difficult, what will you accomplish? You told me you one day wanted to be a scientist. Do you think it's easy to become one? It may take you three hours just to finish your homework now, but with a lot of hard work and practice, you'll be able to finish it in one hour like you used to."
If I keep giving up when things get tough, how will I ever achieve anything?
Words to get me by the next 4 weeks of anticipated hell. :/
